Crash at the start: Gazprom's shares have fallen to prices not seen since 2008.
Today, during trading on the Moscow Exchange, a significant price event occurred. At 12:13 Moscow time, the price of ordinary shares of PJSC "Gazprom" fell to 83.98 rubles, which is 5% lower than the opening levels. This figure became a new low point in the history of the securities' circulation, as the previous anti-record, recorded at 84 rubles, is now in the past.
Interestingly, the decline was rapid: literally within a day, the dynamics accelerated dramatically. Recall that just the day before, the price of these same shares had crossed the 90 ruble mark downwards, and this was already called the first such case since 2008.
However, by 12:53 Moscow time, the "bearish" pressure had eased somewhat — quotes corrected upwards, returning above 84 rubles. Nevertheless, the main trend of the day had already been set.
Alongside the fall of "Gazprom," broad market indicators also declined. The IMOEX2 index fell below the 2100-point mark for the first time since December 2022 during the morning session. After the main trading opened, the Moscow Exchange index (IMOEX) stabilized at 2053 points (as of 12:53 Moscow time), confirming the overall downward trend across the spectrum of liquid assets.
Accurate exchange data and historical parallels are provided based on trading information at 12:53 Moscow time, reports the newspaper "Kommersant."

The trading session on July 16 will go down in the history of the Russian market as the day of the double price bottom. The quotes of the gas monopoly broke through a multi-year low, dragging down the key stock index, which returned to the levels of the end of 2022.
