The drunk driver from Kirovo-Chepetsk received a harsher sentence for a fatal traffic accident.
The Kirovo-Chepetsk city prosecutor's office supported the state prosecution in the criminal case against a 52-year-old local resident, found guilty of violating traffic rules, resulting in the negligent death of a person. The woman was driving a car while intoxicated.
As established by the court, the tragedy occurred on October 4, 2024, on Ganinskaya Street in Kirovo-Chepetsk. The woman, behind the wheel of a Kia Rio, was driving along the roadside while in a state of alcohol intoxication when she hit a 79-year-old cyclist. The pensioner died from the injuries sustained.
During the court proceedings, the accused fully admitted her guilt and partially compensated the relatives of the deceased for moral damages.
The first-instance court sentenced her to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a settlement colony, and also deprived her of the right to drive vehicles for two years.
However, the son of the deceased disagreed with this decision and appealed the verdict, considering the imposed sentence too lenient. His arguments were supported by the state prosecutor.
As a result of the appellate review, the higher court changed the verdict and increased the prison term to five years. The other provisions of the verdict remained unchanged.
