Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the prospects of lowering the key rate of the Bank of Russia. He made this statement during a meeting with the head of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Aisen Nikolayev. This was reported by "Kommersant."
During the conversation, Nikolayev mentioned that he recently met with the Chairman of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina. According to him, the head of the Central Bank stated that the key rate "seems to be decreasing."
"This is very necessary for us," noted the regional leader.
In response, Vladimir Putin stated that the rate reduction "should be and will be a natural process," which depends on macroeconomic indicators.
Earlier, Elvira Nabiullina also stated that the Central Bank sees the possibility for further lowering the key rate. However, the timing and pace of this process will depend on the development of the economic situation.
The head of the Central Bank also noted that the regulator considers the situation in the fuel market to be temporary and does not currently observe additional inflationary risks related to rising gasoline prices. At the same time, according to her, the period of high interest rates in the Russian economy may last longer than previously expected.
