Russians are massively switching to alternative transport.
Supply issues with fuel and panic among motorists in May-June radically changed consumer behavior in the market. Russians have increasingly chosen hybrids and electric vehicles, according to analysts' data.
In June, the number of closed deals for purchasing cars with alternative engines increased by 30% compared to May, while the average cost of such vehicles rose from 1,390,000 to 1,710,000 rubles — an increase of 23%. Chinese brands accounted for over 75% of the "green" car market (up by 25%), while Japanese brands held a share of 20.4% (up by 4.8%).
The most popular electric vehicles became Zeekr 001, 009, and X — their share exceeded 18% of all "electric" sales. Among hybrids, Voyah Free leads with a share of over 24%.
Similar data is provided by dealers: sales of plug-in hybrids in June increased 2.7 times compared to last year — to 6,100 cars, writes Kommersant. In the first half of the year, sales of such vehicles reached 30,700 units — a growth of 2.3 times. Sales of pure electric vehicles in June amounted to 748 units — higher than in May but lower than the figures for June 2025.
Market participants emphasize that the main surge was specifically in hybrids, as they allow the use of the car both as a regular vehicle with an internal combustion engine and as an electric-powered transport. In the premium segment, Zeekr and Avatr are more frequently chosen, while in the mass market, Voyah, Geely, and WEY are preferred.
However, experts do not expect a sustainable trend.
The CEO of the analytical platform explained that today's surge in demand is more of a temporary reaction to current events. According to him, as soon as the fuel situation normalizes, interest will decrease again, and selling such cars will be as difficult as before. He also advised owners of gasoline and diesel vehicles not to worry and not to rush to sell their cars.
