Family finances: 85% are in favor of openness, but only a third actually talk about it.
A sociological study timed for July 8 recorded an interesting paradox. 85% of Russians believe that financial openness in the family is necessary. In practice, however, a systematic dialogue about money with children is established in only 38% of households. Another 49% of parents discuss this topic occasionally, while 13% prefer not to bring it up at all.
Regional differences are noticeable. In Moscow and the Northwest region (excluding St. Petersburg), 43% and 48% of families regularly talk about finances with their children. In the North Caucasus and the Far East, this number is halved — 22% and 28%, respectively.
The structure of family budgets is also heterogeneous. 40% of Russians fully combine their incomes. However, the mixed format is most common (48%): a common fund for major goals — housing, vacations, education — while each spouse retains personal funds. Only 12% maintain separate finances, and in Moscow, this figure is higher (15%) than in St. Petersburg.
The expense items paid from the common budget are distributed predictably. The undisputed leaders are children's education (83%), utilities (79%), vacations (76%), everyday purchases (73%), and healthcare (69%). However, digital subscriptions cause disagreements: only half of the respondents are willing to pay for them jointly.
In a survey conducted by Sberbank, attitudes towards joint banking products were also studied. 80% are aware of such services, 20% already use them, and 59% are considering this possibility. The most popular tool is regular transfers to relatives (39%). Next are joint savings and shared cashback (20% each), payment from one card (18%), and joint deposits (15%).
Interestingly, in everyday care for loved ones, finances are not the top priority. More often, Russians show attention through emotional support (55%), practical help (49%), and maintaining closeness (54%). Financial support was mentioned by only 31% — it falls behind non-material forms of participation.

Family finances: 85% are in favor of openness, but only a third actually talk about it.
On the Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity, sociologists found out how Russians manage money at home. Almost everyone is convinced that the budget should not be a secret. However, only 38% of parents regularly discuss finances with their children. At the same time, 88% of families combine their incomes, but every second family chooses a mixed model — shared expenses plus personal pocket money.
