The State Duma clarified the rules for accessing websites through foreign mail.
The chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Sergey Boyarsky, clarified that users will not have to re-register or change their email addresses to access existing accounts. This was reported by "Kommersant."
According to the deputy, if a person previously registered on a Russian service using a foreign email, they will be able to continue using their account. At the same time, the authorities welcome the transition of users to domestic email services.
The clarification is related to a law signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of June. The document introduces administrative responsibility for owners of internet resources who continue to provide the ability to register and authenticate through foreign services. For violators, fines of up to 700,000 rubles are provided.
As Sergey Boyarsky explained, the new regulations are primarily aimed at website owners and developers, whom they want to encourage to abandon the use of foreign authentication services. Existing user accounts are not planned to be disabled.
