The treatment of schizophrenia in Russia will change.
The updated version will include additional studies on drugs, hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis for hospitalized patients, as well as new methods of blood purification. The draft order of the ministry has been published on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts. The current standard for the treatment of schizophrenia has been in use since 2022. The updated document proposes to include plasmapheresis and hemosorption—procedures used to purify blood from harmful substances. It is also planned to abandon group therapy with patients' relatives as part of non-drug treatment. In addition, the list of medications will change. Brexpiprazole and Tetrabenazine will be added, while Alprazolam will be excluded from the list. Earlier, on May 22, The Lancet reported that the number of diagnosed cases of mental disorders in 2023 amounted to 1.17 billion people worldwide. From 1990 to 2023, the number of prevalent cases of all mental disorders has increased.
