The final point was reached faster than expected: the icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker was brought into the cathedral at 15:20, although the schedule of the Vyatka Diocese planned the meeting for 16:00. By that time, thousands of people had gathered at the monastery — noticeably fewer than on June 3, when 31,000 pilgrims were just leaving Kirov. Most left after the service in Velikoretsky, so only the most resilient remained for the finale.
Photo: Newsler.ru "I am not going for the first time, and the most important thing I realized, probably after about the second time — is that just walking this cross procession will be very hard," began one of the pilgrims, who stopped at the entrance to the monastery. "You must go with a priest and pray together, because thanks to this, it becomes much easier to walk, really much. And the most important thing — it is more correct, and the efficiency will be much higher. And when I walked the first times, just like that, it was hard, wrong, and foolish on my part."
— What were you walking for? How do you feel in the end?
"I really tried to go through the cross procession exactly as I said. I found a priest and together with him remembered all my deceased. First of all, I came here to remember the deceased, relatives, and the living too. I don't have any particular problems. I was concerned about the deceased. And I understand perfectly that I did a lot. Joy of the soul, peace," shared the young man.
Another pilgrim who completed the procession added: "Thank God, I finished the journey. I won, did not drop out early, despite some obstacles." One of the women warmly thanked the organizers: "I want to thank everyone who organized and helped us. The main thing is to remember that you should go according to your strength." The atmosphere at the finish was strikingly different from the start six days ago. Then it was noisy, crowded, and solemn. Today — almost quiet and calm. Many looked tired, sunburned. Instead of standing for a prayer service led by Metropolitan Mark of Vyatka and Slobodsky, most spread mats right on the monastery grounds and simply rested. But their faces showed sincere joy.

The journey was indeed not easy. During the cross procession, medics and rescuers recorded more than 2,500 requests for help. According to emergency services, evacuation was required for more than 100 pilgrims who could not cope with the load or sustained injuries. Nevertheless, the finale became a personal victory for many. "The most important thing is for them to go and see the Cross Procession because all of Russia is gathered there. That's all," said the pilgrims in response to a request for advice to future participants. The official cross procession ended today at 18:00 with a prayer service at the Trifon Monastery. Recall that earlier we reported how 31,000 pilgrims left Kirov on June 3, as well as about the main liturgy in Velikoretsky.
