Russia has increased food exports to Belarus.
From January to March, the republic entered the top 3 largest buyers of Russian food products, reports Interfax. The basis of the exports consisted of sunflower oil ($149 million, an increase of 17%), pork and pork by-products ($85 million, +21%), and pet food ($50 million, +45%). There was also a significant increase in the supply of flour-based sweets (by a quarter, to $48 million) and chocolate products (by almost a third, to $45 million).
These figures confirm a long-standing trend: Belarus remains a key trading partner for Russia in the agricultural sector.
"The Kirov trace": what and how is supplied from our region
In January of this year, Governor Alexander Sokolov met with the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, proposing that Belarusian businesses more actively enter the region.
"We came with a large business mission — with a specific portfolio of proposals for the entry of Belarusian businesses into the territory of the Kirov region, and for the presentation of our products that can be used in the work of Belarusian enterprises," the regional head stated at that time.
The main export directions from the region:
Pork: Kirov agricultural producers planned to supply large batches of meat to Belarus. However, in February it became known that the Belarusian side did not need Kirov pork, focusing on its own reserves and other partners. Nevertheless, the potential for cooperation remains, as stated by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation: "The common task of the two countries is the accelerated modernization of the agro-industrial complex."
Sweets and chocolate: In this segment, the region has tangible successes. In 2025, the total volume of exports of agro-industrial complex products from the Kirov region to the Republic of Belarus increased by 8% compared to 2024. The largest growth was noted in the supply of confectionery products: supplies increased by 44%.
The positive dynamics of the last five years have made Belarus the largest importer of Russian food products in the CIS. According to experts, the potential for supplies by 2030 exceeds $4.4 billion.
