Sokolov on the religious procession: "So far, everything is going smoothly."
At a government meeting, Governor Alexander Sokolov reminded that on June 3, the Velikoretsky Cross Procession started in Kirov. The main religious events took place on the 6th. Today, June 8, the pilgrims will return to Kirov, and they are expected to be welcomed at the Holy Assumption Cathedral of the Trifon Monastery around 4 PM.
"The Kirov region has become the center of the Orthodox Russian world," Sokolov said. "More than 30,000 people from many cities in Russia and other countries participated in the Velikoretsky Cross Procession. Of their own volition, despite the heat and rain, people performed a feat in glory of the Lord. This is an unprecedented event in the Orthodox world." The governor thanked everyone who participated in organizing and conducting the procession, ensuring safety, and assisting the pilgrims. He wished the latter that their requests, with which they came to the procession, would be fulfilled.
Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Luchinin, in turn, reported that 31,000 people left Kirov, and 37,000 participated in the main celebrations. According to him, the work of all services was planned in advance, and its coordination was carried out daily. The official promised to present the final information at the next meeting. Sokolov added: "So far, everything is going well, without incidents."
