Experts named the reasons for the closure of the "Maxi" hypermarket on Moskovskaya in Kirov.
"Maxi" on Moskovskaya opened as a large facility with a grocery hypermarket and rental area. The sales area was about 6,000 square meters, with parking for 420 cars. It was not a small neighborhood store, but a full-fledged point of district scale. According to experts, the format of large grocery stores is currently undergoing transformation. Shoppers are increasingly choosing what is closer and faster: a discount store at home, a supermarket on the way, delivery, or a marketplace. A large store requires a separate trip, which means it must provide a strong reason to go there, as reported by "Molly.RU." At "Maxi" in Kirov, such a reason is now better perceived at Luganskaya, 53, where a large shopping and entertainment center with stores, entertainment, and parking operates. For the chain, it is more profitable to concentrate traffic in a strong location than to maintain several large facilities with similar roles in one city. The closure of the point on Moskovskaya, experts note, also fits into the overall trend of regional retail: chains are increasingly less likely to hold spaces just for the sake of presence on the map. If a store does not generate the necessary traffic, requires high maintenance costs, or loses to a stronger location within the same chain, it is easier to close it and redirect customers to another facility. So far, the company has not disclosed what will appear in place of the closed hypermarket. However, we previously reported that the building on Moskovskaya was acquired by the "Sistema Globus" group of companies back in late 2024. Experts are confident that free space of this format is unlikely to go unnoticed — a new anchor store, warehouse, or service center may open here, or the facility may be repurposed for another everyday scenario.
