Since the beginning of the year, fraudsters have stolen more than half a billion rubles from residents of Kirov.
According to the Prosecutor's Office of the Kirov Region, in 2026, scammers stole 527.4 million rubles from residents of the region. Over the course of a week, the amount of damage increased by another 33.7 million rubles.
Most often, the fraudsters pose as employees of the FSB, the Prosecutor's Office, the Central Bank, the tax service, the "Gosuslugi" portal, the post office, or energy suppliers. They use not only regular phone calls but also messengers for communication.
To convince the victim, the criminals send photographs of fake IDs and other documents. Sometimes, couriers are involved in the scheme, who collect money from the victims and hand over fictitious papers supposedly to confirm the legality of the transactions.
The Prosecutor's Office also noted that scammers are increasingly using artificial intelligence technologies. With their help, they can forge a person's voice or image, including imitating the speech of relatives.
Since the beginning of the year, the Prosecutor's Office of the Kirov Region has filed 573 lawsuits in the interests of victims of remote thefts. Another 25 lawsuits concern the invalidation of loans that people took out under the influence of deception.
