Experts: depression and anxiety are taking over the world
According to "Komsomolskaya Pravda," citing a study, the number of people with mental illnesses has nearly doubled over the past 30 years. These disorders have already surpassed cardiovascular diseases and cancer in prevalence.
The most vulnerable groups are women and adolescents aged 15 to 19. It is among them that mental health issues are most frequently recorded.
The most common mental disorders identified by scientists are anxiety disorders and severe depression. Since 2019, the number of anxiety disorders has increased by 47%, and cases of severe depression have risen by 24%. Experts attribute the sharp rise to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, the study shows that only about 9% of patients with severe depression receive at least minimally adequate medical care. The majority of people remain without proper treatment.
Earlier, experts also stated that by 2030, cancer could become the leading cause of death, surpassing heart diseases.
