Burkova spoke about the use of AI in campaign materials.

      At the meeting of the Legislative Assembly committee, the head of the regional election commission, Galina Burkova, touched upon the topic of using artificial intelligence in campaign materials, particularly for the 2026 elections. According to Burkova, it is permissible to use AI to create images of individuals, including video images and their voices, but only with the consent of the individual concerned. This can include not only the candidate themselves but also other individuals who are over 18 and have provided written consent. The use of fictional and deceased individuals in campaigning is prohibited. Therefore, if a candidate wishes to create videos using AI with themselves in front of a crowd, they must obtain permission from each person in that crowd and ensure that they are of legal age. Burkova added that after the start of the election campaign, campaign materials must be submitted to a special commission before distribution. This commission will check for compliance with the law. Additionally, the distribution of materials must be funded from the candidate's election fund.
