Base station in a backpack: MegaFon presented a solution for industry and rescuers

      At the core of the complex is a portable base station and equipment for creating a satellite communication channel, which can be represented by the universal subscriber terminal BUREAU 1440. The station, along with satellite equipment, provides access to the internet and corporate network, as well as supports trunking communication, Wi-Fi, mobile data transmission private LTE, private 5G, and video surveillance. The solution operates autonomously for up to four hours and provides stable coverage within a radius of up to three kilometers with direct visibility even while in motion. Data transfer speeds reach 150 Mbps for downloads and up to 50 Mbps for uploads.

      The portable base station, equipped with a satellite terminal, can be placed on vehicles or in open areas. Different modifications are provided for various usage scenarios—from a basic version that can be carried by a person to ensure communication for devices within a radius of several kilometers, to a fully equipped configuration with the ability for prolonged autonomous operation and coverage of up to tens of kilometers.

      "The satellite communication channel for our complex creates even more technological advantages for our customers. A secure network, the ability to deploy anywhere without being tied to traditional infrastructure, and simultaneous connection of up to 300 users will help the mining industry and the fuel and energy complex organize communication for employees at temporary or remote sites. Moreover, the solution is also useful for emergency services during search and rescue operations, where every minute can be crucial," noted Natalia Taldykina, Deputy Commercial Director for Corporate and Government Segments at MegaFon.

      "In March 2026, we began deploying a low-orbit constellation aimed at providing next-generation satellite communication services 24/7 at any point on the planet. By the end of the year, the first subscribers will receive access to the service in pilot mode—primarily using subscriber terminals developed by BUREAU 1440. Telecom operators were the first to sign forward contracts with us, starting to work on local usage scenarios for our satellite signal. The presented technical solution is an excellent example of how the satellite communication infrastructure of BUREAU 1440 can ensure connectivity, including on the 'last mile' to the subscriber," noted Dmitry Agafonov, Deputy General Director of BUREAU 1440.

      The solution provides for working with a broadband communication service based on the low-orbit constellation of BUREAU 1440, a contract for which MegaFon signed back in 2024. Transitioning to the use of a low-orbit satellite constellation will significantly increase the volume of transmitted data, opening up additional technical opportunities for the operator's clients.
