In Kirov, a drug addict received two charges for one trip.
In the Prvomaisky District of Kirov, a 45-year-old local resident was sentenced. He was found guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — for driving a vehicle while intoxicated with an existing administrative penalty and for drug possession.
As established by the court, on January 1, 2026, the man purchased mephedrone through a stash hidden near house No. 78/1 on Moskovskaya Street. The weight of the drug was 0.41 grams — this is considered a significant amount under Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The next day, January 2, the Kirov resident got behind the wheel of his Audi car and drove along Kazanskaya Street in the Prvomaisky District. He was stopped by officers there. The driver showed clear signs of intoxication but refused medical examination.
During the check, it was revealed that this same person had previously been held administratively liable for a similar violation — driving a vehicle while intoxicated. Because of this, his actions were reclassified as a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Driving a vehicle while intoxicated by a person subjected to administrative punishment or having a criminal record).
During the inspection of the vehicle, the police discovered and seized the very package of mephedrone that the man had picked up the day before. Thus, Part 1 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition and storage of narcotic substances) was added to the case.
In court, the defendant fully admitted his guilt. The judge took into account mitigating circumstances: the absence of unexpunged convictions, positive references from his workplace and neighbors, as well as the presence of minor children dependent on him. As a result, the court imposed a penalty in the form of a fine of 110,000 rubles and a two-year ban on engaging in activities related to the operation of vehicles.
However, the punishment did not end there. The prosecutor filed a petition for the confiscation of the vehicle based on Article 104.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court granted this request — the offender's Audi was transferred to state ownership. The Kirov resident was left without a car, without a license, and with a hefty fine. At the same time, he managed to avoid actual imprisonment thanks to his admission of guilt and positive references.
