A 21-year-old woman from Kirov believed a "marketplace courier" and lost nine million.
It all started with a phone call: an unknown person introduced themselves as a courier from the marketplace and asked for the code from the SMS. The girl dictated the numbers, after which the call was disconnected. Soon she received another call — this time supposedly from "Ministry of Digital Development" and "Rosfinmonitoring." The unknown individuals convinced the resident of Kirov that a power of attorney had been issued in her name, and that she had allegedly become a suspect in a criminal case as a "dropper." Under the pretext of "verification" and "declaration" of property, the criminals demanded that she hand over all valuables to a "Central Bank courier." Following the instructions, the girl packed money in different currencies, as well as gold and silver jewelry belonging to her mother, into a bag. On the street, she handed the bag to a stranger who named the code word. After that, communication with the "employees" ceased. Realizing what had happened, the resident of Kirov contacted the police. The total damage amounted to 9 million 134 thousand rubles. A criminal case has been initiated, and an investigation is underway. The police remind: real employees of government agencies do not require the transfer of money or valuables through couriers. In such calls, one should immediately terminate the conversation.
