Doctors explained what an extra cup of coffee can lead to.
Coffee has long become a part of everyday life for millions of people, yet debates about its benefits and harms continue. As explained by gastroenterologist and INVITRO specialist Olga Patyukova, when consumed in moderation, this drink often brings benefits to the body.
According to the expert, coffee contains a large amount of antioxidants and other beneficial substances. Regular consumption of 1-4 cups a day can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, as well as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Additionally, caffeine helps to improve concentration, attention, and productivity.
However, exceeding the norm can negatively affect the body. Possible consequences include anxiety, insomnia, increased heart rate, as well as stomach problems, including exacerbation of gastritis and ulcers.
Experts note that a dose of up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day is considered safe for a healthy adult. This is approximately 3-4 cups of coffee. At the same time, doctors recommend limiting consumption to 2-3 cups a day and drinking the beverage primarily in the first half of the day.
There are also categories of people who should better avoid coffee or significantly reduce their consumption. These include patients with heart diseases, severe forms of hypertension, gastrointestinal problems, as well as pregnant women.
Experts emphasize: coffee can be beneficial if consumed wisely. It is important to consider individual characteristics of the body and not exceed recommended norms.
