How to choose eggs and not end up in the hospital
Salmonellosis is an acute infectious disease that is most often transmitted through poultry products, including chicken eggs. During periods of active consumption of such products, the likelihood of falling ill significantly increases.
Among the main symptoms are high fever, chills, weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, and frequent watery stools. When these symptoms appear, doctors strongly recommend not to delay and seek help.
To reduce risks, specialists advise being careful when choosing eggs. They should be smooth, clean, without cracks or damage. Special attention should be paid to the labeling:
Category 3 — the smallest
Category 2 — larger
Category 1 — large
Selected and highest category — the largest.
It is also important to observe storage times: dietary eggs are good for up to 7 days, table eggs for up to 25 days, and washed eggs for no more than 12 days. They should be stored in the refrigerator, separately from ready-to-eat products.
Before cooking, eggs must be thoroughly washed, and they should only be consumed after proper thermal processing. They should be boiled for at least 10 minutes after the water has boiled. Specialists advise against consuming raw eggs, soft-boiled, or fried eggs, especially on holidays.
Additionally, it is not advisable to buy eggs "from hand" or in unauthorized trading places — this is one of the main risk factors.
