In the Kirov region, they are vaccinating decoy ducks.
According to the veterinary station, avian influenza is a viral disease of birds characterized by damage to the circulatory and central nervous systems, respiratory, digestive, excretory organs, and egg production. All species of birds are susceptible to this influenza, and humans can also become ill from it.
The main source of the virus in nature is waterfowl, which carry the virus in their intestines and excrete it into the environment through saliva and feces.
"In order to eliminate the possibility of avian influenza transmission from wild birds to domestic ones, hunters need to vaccinate all the birds in their backyards, especially decoy (man-made) ducks. Immunity after vaccination lasts for one year," the Chepetsk veterinary station reported.
To "vaccinate" the birds, one needs to contact the local state veterinary service at their place of residence. Vaccination is carried out free of charge, as are tests for avian influenza in domestic and wild birds. "Responsible hunters are already coming to us to vaccinate their decoy ducks against influenza," the agency noted.
