The Vyatka will open in early April.
In the Kirov region, the opening of the Vyatka River is expected in the first half of April. According to meteorologists' forecasts, ice drift in the Kirov area will begin approximately from April 4 to April 12.
As of the end of March, the rivers in the region are still in winter mode, but the ice is gradually breaking up. Ice edges and ice jams are already observed on small rivers. No flooding has been recorded so far.
To respond to possible emergencies, a task force has been formed: about 3,000 people, more than 1,000 units of equipment, and over 100 watercraft.
Authorities plan to pay special attention to informing residents living in areas at risk of flooding. SMS notifications will also be used.
In settlements where pontoon bridges may be dismantled due to ice drift, reserves of food, medicines, and essential items will be created in advance. After the rivers open, boat and ferry crossings will be organized for residents.
Recall that earlier, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Kirov region reported that under the worst-case scenario of flooding, up to 37 settlements in areas at risk of flooding could be affected, where reserves of essential items, food, and medicines are already being created, and first aid posts are operational, while fire extinguishing will be ensured by municipal and volunteer fire services.
