World War II veteran Nikolai Mashatin has died in Kirov.

      In Kirov, at the age of 101, Great Patriotic War veteran and honorary citizen of the city Nikolai Egorovich Mashatin passed away. This was reported by the Kirov administration.

      Nikolai Mashatin was born on March 27, 1924, in the village of Fateyevo, Kirovo-Chepetsky District, Kirov Oblast. After finishing school he worked on a collective farm. At 18 he was drafted into military service and from 1942 to 1948 served in the border troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Transbaikal District with the rank of junior sergeant. As a cavalryman and machine-gunner he took part in the Soviet–Japanese War.

      For his combat merits Nikolai Egorovich was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, and medals.

      After demobilization he worked as a driver at enterprises in Kirovo-Chepetsk and the Kirovo-Chepetsky District. From 1962 to 1996 he worked in the regional gas company (Oblgaz) as an emergency vehicle driver and mechanic. He devoted more than 30 years to the gas industry and continued working until the age of 72. For his labor achievements he was awarded the Medal "For Labour Valour."

      In 2025, by decision of the Kirov City Duma, Nikolai Mashatin was granted the title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Kirov."

      The head of the city and the deputies of the Kirov City Duma expressed their condolences to Nikolai Egorovich's family and loved ones.
