In Kirov Oblast, a six-month-old girl was scalded by boiling water.
At the end of last year, a six-month-old girl was admitted to the Kirov Center for Traumatology with a severe scald from boiling water, first- to third-degree burns. It covered more than 10% of her body surface. In addition, the patient had burn shock, pronounced soft-tissue swelling, and impaired peripheral venous access.
Because of the problems with her veins, the doctors decided to catheterize the internal jugular vein. This was done using ultrasound guidance. The catheter functioned normally throughout the treatment and was later removed as planned. Thanks to it, medication therapy could be started in time, thereby reducing the risk of serious complications, said anesthesiologist-resuscitator Oleg Chagin.
The girl remained in the hospital for three weeks. She was treated, including with skin grafting. When her condition improved, she was discharged home for further outpatient follow-up.
