Nestlé baby formulas are no longer being allowed into Russia.
Rospotrebnadzor has introduced a temporary ban on the import into Russia of eight types of Nestlé dry infant formulas. The decision was prompted by the detection of the toxin cereulide in the products. The restrictions apply to formulas produced between April 15 and November 27, 2025.
The banned products include NAN 1 OPTIPRO, NAN 2 OPTIPRO, NAN Supreme, NAN EXPERPRO, NAN lactose-free, PreNAN, Nestogen Comfort and Alfare Amino. The agency clarified that the circulation of these products within the country is also prohibited.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, the toxin was found in raw material supplied by an external vendor. Cereulide is dangerous because symptoms after consuming a product with a high content can appear within six hours. Possible consequences include vomiting and diarrhea; manifestations can resemble either food poisoning or an allergy to cow's milk proteins.
The Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT), operator of the "Chestny Znak" labeling system, noted that such cases underscore the need for digital labeling of infant food. According to a CRPT representative, with mandatory labeling regulators could promptly block specific batches of products nationwide, the newspaper Kommersant reports.
Due to the sensitivity of the infant food category, the Russian government has decided to carry out an experiment on labeling such products. It is scheduled for January 12 to October 31, 2026. The experiment is intended to work through all technological and business processes jointly with manufacturers, importers and retail chains.
