Scammers failed to con a pensioner from Kirov.
A 76-year-old woman from Kirov contacted the police, reporting an attempted fraud. According to the pensioner, she received a call from an unknown woman who introduced herself as an HR officer of the company where her late husband had previously worked. The caller said the woman was allegedly entitled to an additional pension payment and offered to register her with the pension fund.
To confirm the "registration," the pensioner was asked to read out a code from an SMS. After that the call ended, and a series of calls began from "bank employees," "Gosuslugi" and even the FSB.
The callers claimed that fraudsters had gained access to the woman's personal account, submitted an application for a large loan and were trying to transfer her money to terrorists' accounts. To avoid criminal liability, the pensioner was urged to immediately transfer all her savings to a "protected special account."
However, the woman from Kirov said she does not use the "Gosuslugi" portal and ended the conversation. She did not transfer any money to the fraudsters. A criminal case has been opened on the charge of attempted fraud on an especially large scale, and an investigation is underway.
The police remind the public: there are no situations in which callers legitimately ask you to give SMS codes, apply for loans or transfer money to "safe accounts" — regardless of who they claim to be.
