Nearly a quarter of Kirov residents admitted that they buy New Year's gifts haphazardly.
According to the survey results, 23% of the city's residents choose gifts spontaneously — without a list, a plan, or premeditated ideas. Only 10% begin preparing for the holiday several months in advance, and another 19% about a month before. The most popular time to buy gifts remains the period 2–3 weeks before the New Year: 22% of respondents do so. At the same time, 12% admitted that they do not choose presents at all.
Women plan purchases in advance much more often than men: 23% start looking for gifts a month ahead, and 13% even earlier. Men, by contrast, tend to improvise and often explain their refusal to search themselves simply: "My wife takes care of it, and we give together."
Young people under 35 are more active in choosing gifts 2–3 weeks before the holiday (26%), whereas the 35–45 group is more impulsive than others — 32% make purchases at the last moment.
Notably, the higher the income, the greater the spontaneity. Among those who earn up to 80,000 rubles, 17% choose impromptu shopping, and among those earning from 150,000 — already 29%.
