Kirov residents were advised to get vaccinated against ticks.

The Kirov Region office of Rospotrebnadzor reminded residents of the region of the need to be vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis. Autumn is considered the most suitable time to start the vaccination campaign — there are several months before the tick activity season, and the body will have time to develop protection, the agency noted.

Vaccinations are given to those who live or work in areas where ticks are found, as well as to those who often spend time outdoors. At-risk groups include foresters, construction workers, agricultural workers and specialists engaged in landscaping and grounds maintenance.

There are two vaccination schedules: primary and emergency. The primary schedule includes two doses administered from November to March with an interval of 1 to 7 months, followed by a third dose 5–12 months later. After that, revaccination is conducted once every three years.

The emergency schedule is used if little time remains before going into the forest. In that case, the interval between the first and second doses is reduced to two weeks. After the second dose, visiting the forest is not recommended until at least 14 days have passed.

Vaccinations are available using Russian and foreign vaccines. Vaccination can be paid for out of pocket, by an employer, or by the regional budget — in the latter case, for example, for schoolchildren and pensioners.
