A student from Kirov lost 540,000 rubles while "updating" his medical insurance policy following scammers' instructions.

In Kirov, a student lost 540,000 rubles after believing calls from an "insurance company" and "Gosuslugi specialists." He was told that he needed to replace his medical insurance policy and, to confirm the operation, to provide the code from an SMS.

According to the police, after that the Kirov resident received a call from supposed "Gosuslugi specialists" who told him that his account had been hacked and that loans were now being taken out in his name. To "protect the accounts," another caller claiming to be a "Central Bank employee" contacted him and explained that he needed to transfer all his money to a "protected special account," and also take out loans and send them there as well.

Following the instructions, the student transferred 540,000 rubles to the fraudsters. When he was asked to increase the amount by borrowing money from relatives, the young man told his family about the situation — and they stopped him in time.

A criminal case has been opened on fraud, and an investigation is underway.
