Residents of Kirov have been leaving for Saint Petersburg more often.
Over the first nine months of 2025, nearly 50,000 passengers used long‑distance trains from Kirov to Saint Petersburg — 13.1% more than in the same period last year. According to the Gorky Railway, seven direct and transit trains currently run between Kirov and the northern capital. Experts attribute the rise in interest in the route to a convenient timetable, strong demand for tourist travel and improved service quality. A similar trend is being observed in neighboring Volga regions: 122,300 passengers traveled from Nizhny Novgorod to Saint Petersburg (+11%), 57,000 from Kazan (+13.3%), and 23,400 from Izhevsk (+11.8%).
