Nearly half of Russians viewed the blocking of calls on Telegram and WhatsApp negatively.

      Almost one in two Russians views the blocking of calls on Telegram and WhatsApp* negatively, according to a Public Opinion Foundation survey published on September 12. Roskomnadzor's decision was viewed negatively by 49% of respondents. Another 15% evaluated the measures positively, and 16% were unsure. At the same time, 26% of those surveyed hardly noticed the blocking, 23% considered the restrictions a "minor nuisance," and 15% a "serious loss." Roskomnadzor explained the measures as necessary to combat fraudsters and due to the non-compliance of Telegram and WhatsApp* with the requirements of Russian legislation. According to the survey, only 14% of respondents had encountered fraudsters via messaging apps, while 59% had received fraudulent calls on their mobile phones.
