At the Central Market they rounded up newly declared Russian citizens who had not registered for military service.

A raid to check compliance with migration legislation was carried out at the Central Market, the Military Security Department for the Kirov Garrison reported. Officers from the military investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kirov Garrison, the Migration Issues Department of the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kirov Region, as well as the regional military commissariat and the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, were identifying persons who had obtained Russian citizenship but had not registered for military service.

According to the agency, from the moment a foreign national takes the oath, even before receiving a Russian passport, that foreign national is obliged to report to the military enlistment office and register for military service within two weeks, but, as practice shows, they do not do this immediately. Such interagency raids take place across the country, and the Kirov Region is no exception. Markets, bases, retail outlets, construction sites — they check all locations where the so‑called former migrants who have received Russian passports work. Upon acquiring citizenship they receive not only rights but also obligations.

“In the future the three individuals identified during the raid will be taken to military commissariats for further proceedings and registration for military service. In some cases deportation from the territory of the Russian Federation is being considered for them as violators of migration legislation. So far this year in the Kirov Region alone more than a few dozen violators evading registration for military service have been identified. Their number is already approaching one hundred. All of them have been registered, and seven of them have signed contracts and are serving, including in the special military operation zone,” the Military Security Department for the Kirov Garrison noted.
