In Russia, mortgage debts have doubled and reached 146 billion rubles.
Over the past four years the volume of overdue mortgage debt in Russia has more than doubled — from 72.6 billion to 146.2 billion rubles. According to a study by the collection agency Debt Consultant, calculated per working‑age Russian (over 15), the amount of debt rose from 957 thousand to 1.92 million rubles.
The leader in overdue amounts was the Republic of Tuva, where the figure reached 16.3 million rubles. The top five also included North Ossetia (5.8 million), Karachay‑Cherkessia (3.55 million), Krasnodar Krai (3.47 million) and Moscow Oblast (3.12 million). In other federal districts the largest overdue amounts were recorded in Tatarstan (2.34 million), Leningrad Region (2.19 million), Khanty‑Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (2.84 million) and Chukotka (2.2 million), the Unified Developers Resource website reports.
Debt reductions were observed in only two subjects: in Kaliningrad Region — by almost 1.6 times, to 1.43 million rubles, and in the Altai Republic — by 14%, to 0.91 million rubles.
According to Debt Consultant CEO Denis Aksenov, the dynamics of overdue payments reflect not only rising indebtedness but also citizens' inability to cope with mortgage obligations. If one imagines the debts as shared, it turns out that each resident, because of non‑payers, has "financed" at least one room, and in some regions an entire apartment, the expert noted.
