The traffic police will gain access to drivers' medical records.
According to amendments to the federal laws "On Road Traffic Safety" and "On Personal Data", the State Traffic Inspectorate will gain access to medical records and will be able to temporarily revoke driver's licenses not only after a diagnosis is made, but also after an ordinary visit to a doctor by the driver, Gazeta.ru reports. If signs of illnesses that impair safe driving are detected in a driver during a medical screening or examination, they will be required to undergo an unscheduled medical evaluation. One month is allotted for undergoing treatment and confirming recovery, after which the driver's license is returned to the motorist. If they fail to appear or refuse to undergo treatment, the driver's license will be annulled. It should be noted that currently drivers undergo a medical examination once every 10 years, or before obtaining a license for the first time.
Recall that from September 1 of this year an updated list of contraindications for operating a vehicle will come into force in Russia. In addition to existing contraindications such as epilepsy, schizophrenia and severe visual impairments, the list has been expanded to include "general disorders of psychological development." In addition, the term "achromatopsia" has been replaced with a new definition — "color vision anomalies" (impairment of color vision and perception of the surrounding world in black-and-white or gray tones).
