Pensioner jailed for 7.5 years for murdering a friend.

      On October 24, 2023, a conflict broke out between a 70-year-old resident of Kirov and his acquaintance while they were in an apartment at building No. 109 on Oktyabrsky Prospekt. The cause was the immoral behavior of one of the men due to severe intoxication. The 70-year-old Kirov resident struck his companion with a knife in the thigh, damaging an artery. The victim lost a great deal of blood and died at the scene. A criminal case was opened against the pensioner. He was found guilty under part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm that, through negligence, resulted in the victim’s death). The court agreed with the prosecutor and sentenced the man to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment. The defendant’s counsel appealed the sentence to the appellate court, but the verdict ultimately remained in force. The Kirov resident will serve the sentence in a strict‑regime correctional colony.
