New trends in teens' IT preferences: creativity and leadership instead of coding
T1 IT Holding presented the results of an unusual study of the professional preferences of the new generation. A survey of 400 school students at a technology festival showed a sharp shift in the career aspirations of future IT specialists, reports volga.news.
Unexpected preferences
According to the study, every fifth teenager (22%) shows the greatest interest in UX/UI design, 18% of respondents see themselves as future team leads, and traditional software development attracts only 12% of those surveyed.
Era of versatile professionals
A particularly interesting trend identified by T1 specialists is that 73% of participants demonstrate skills in multiple IT areas. This indicates the formation of a generation of flexible specialists with a broad outlook.
“The results exceeded our expectations,” comments Ekaterina Kolesnikova, Deputy General Director of T1 for Personnel. “Modern teenagers want not just to code, but to create user-friendly products and to lead teams. This requires a rethink of approaches to IT workforce training.”
Festival as an indicator of trends
The event in honor of the 100th anniversary of Artek gathered more than 900 participants. In addition to career guidance testing, students developed concepts for IT startups in a business game and learned the basics of cybersecurity in special masterclasses.
The research methodology included interactive testing via a chat-bot, evaluating predisposition to five key IT roles on a specially developed scale.
Experts note that the data obtained could serve as a basis for adjusting educational programs in the field of information technology.
