Pensioner gave fraudsters 5 million rubles for a "declaration"

Pensioner gave fraudsters 5 million rubles for a "declaration"

Unknown persons called the 68-year-old man's landline phone and introduced themselves as employees of Roselecom. The conversation with the man began with the question of extending the contract for a fixed-line telephone point, and ended with the requirements to "declare" the money available to the man.

"The scammers exerted informational and psychological pressure on the victim. Posing as employees of the military prosecutor's office (whose activities are not related to civilians), employees of the FSB and other law enforcement agencies, they expressed suspicions that the pensioner had committed crimes against the state, such as financing the armed forces of an unfriendly state (AFU), etc. As if to confirm his honesty and prove his innocence, a man needs to "declare" his savings. And this can be done through a courier," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in the Kirov region reported.

An elderly resident of Kirov believed the callers and handed over all his money, 5 million rubles, to an unknown woman who acted as a courier. The police informed him that the man had become a victim of fraud.

The Regional Ministry of Internal Affairs said that a criminal case had been opened on this fact, and operational search measures were being carried out.
