Fines of millions were imposed for the leakage of personal data.

      As reported on the website of the State Duma, on May 30 of this year, amendments to the Administrative Code came into force, strengthening responsibility for violating the procedure for processing personal data, adopted by deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on November 26, 2024.

      At the moment, revolving fines are imposed for companies that have re-leaked personal data of any category: up to 3% of revenue (but not less than 25 million rubles and not more than 500 million rubles).

      Fines have also been established for commercial organizations and sole proprietors:

      for violating the obligation to notify about the leakage of personal data — from 1 to 3 million rubles

      for the leakage of personal data on at least 1 thousand individuals or at least 10 thousand identifiers — from 3 to 5 million rubles

      for the leakage of data on at least 10 thousand individuals or not less than 100 thousand identifiers — from 5 to 10 million rubles

      for data leakage on more than 100 thousand individuals or more than 1 million identifiers — from 10 to 15 million rubles

      for biometric data leakage — from 15 to 20 million rubles.

      As noted by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, cases of personal data falling into the hands of fraudsters have become more frequent in Russia. "The adopted standards will strengthen the protection of personal data," Volodin said.
