Kirov residents were told what dual waste collection is.
As the regional operator explained, dual collection is a system for dividing waste into two fractions: "dry" waste (recyclables) and "wet" waste (organic, unsorted waste). Two containers are installed at each site for them, and two different machines also take out waste. This type of collection is used in the Kirov region.
Such two-stream waste collection is considered the most efficient, due to the following:
It is easier for citizens to learn and start separating waste
to install RSO containers, they do not need a lot of space on sites, and therefore such containers can be placed in a large number of locations
without requiring a significant increase in the number of special equipment.
For example, the organization of waste collection in four fractions requires high costs for the collection and export of each type of recyclable materials. Installing containers under each of them increases the storage area. In addition, a large number of containers can confuse people. Logistics costs will also increase, as each fraction needs a separate car to be exported. All this could affect the size of the tariff.
In addition, the dual collection allows you to send more recyclables for recycling. In 2026, the Tsentralny waste processing complex with a capacity of 200 thousand tons of waste per year will start operating in the Slobodsky district. The waste collected as a result of separate collection will be sorted there. This will be an important step in achieving the goals and objectives of the national Environmental Well-being project.
