Max Verstappen's father and co-manager stated that the shocking disqualifications in Las Vegas have provided his son with a renewed momentum, and he believes that McLaren will now feel an increased amount of pressure in the upcoming two race weekends. "The championship race isn't entirely open yet, but it is somewhat more accessible," Jos Verstappen told the Dutch magazine Formule 1 when asked about Lando Norris's exclusion from the official results on Sunday. "This certainly represents a significant stroke of luck for Max, no doubt about it."

Jos mentioned that the happenings in Vegas, along with McLaren’s late-race radio message telling Norris to "go and get Max," will only enhance the Red Bull driver's mentality. "This feeds Max with additional positive energy," he stated. "Just hearing and reading about how McLaren’s radio comment impacts Max, it's clear that it's an extra motivation. Moreover, McLaren will only become more anxious. They can't afford anything more now."

Jos was also critical of Norris’s maneuver at the start when the pole-sitter abruptly shut the door on Verstappen, resulting in him running wide. "That was overly aggressive," he commented. "It was a risky situation between the two cars, and it could have resulted in both of them being out of the race. The issue is that Lando is solely fixated on Max, Max, Max—yet he completely forgets to brake for the first corner. Max braked at least five meters earlier, so that could also be considered a mistake."

He noted that Zak Brown has frequently criticized Max's driving style for being too aggressive at the start, but he's confident that Brown will have to evaluate his own driver now. Jos expressed his disbelief regarding McLaren's technical violation. "This is a massive error by McLaren—a significant blunder," he said. "Why would they push the limit like that? It might have genuinely been a mistake, but perhaps the car simply wouldn't perform optimally otherwise, necessitating this action."

According to Jos, Max was already aware of the ruling before it became public. "I had a brief conversation with Max before I left," he disclosed. "He was already on the plane to Monaco when the disqualification was confirmed, but he knew beforehand that disqualification was imminent."

With Qatar next on the schedule, Jos feels the dynamics of the championship have shifted drastically and suddenly. "The pressure is now on McLaren, and they will sense it," he remarked. "It's still true that if Max wins the remaining races and Norris comes in second every time, Norris will be the world champion. However, Oscar Piastri is also in the mix, and he won't be happy right now either. You can clearly see a disparity between the two McLarens on the track—the way they handle corners. One skids, while the other doesn’t, prompting questions."

"In any case, the end of the season is set to be very thrilling. For Max, everything must go in his favor. But he has nothing to lose and can fully go on the offensive. And he certainly will."
